I see a growth mindset as a core value. Since I adopted this mindset in 2017, I changed the way how I looked at learning. As Don Norman says in his book The Design of Everyday Things (p.72): “We need to remove the word failure from our vocabulary and replace it with learning experiences. I know that I am not the fastest learner, but I give myself room to ‘fail’.

Adventure is an important part of my life. I love to go on an unknown adventure. Often an adventure leads to moments of (self)reflection for me.

In my free time, I enjoy race-cycle, mountain biking, hiking, and playing Ice Hockey. As with everything in life, I am still learning to get better every day. The most important thing for me is that I enjoy the activity that I am doing.

I am passionate about the Design of everyday things. I can be intrigued and appreciate aesthetic design. Science tells us that the product experience of humans is influenced by the design of the product. Aesthetic qualities can make engineering products more readily acceptable and perceived as more usable (Hekkert 2006). In other words: We like nice, designed products, and find them more usable.

Since I can remember I’ve always been fascinated by video. In 2019 I decided to match my words with my deeds. I started a YouTube channel and started to learn a lot of new things about video. Video is not only great for entertainment purposes, but science tells us that when learning new things end-users can be helped with video to understand the new material (Mayer 2017; Mayer & Moreno, 2003).

I am not a programmer. However, I am someone who understands technology well to translate it understandably to the everyday end user and vice versa. I am passionate to match (new) technology to the behaviour of end-users. I often describe it as a social engineer or as people know it: a user experience designer/researcher
