In his book Future Ethics, Cennydd Bowles refers to the suggestion that each design team should appoint a so-called 'designated dissenter', a devil's advocate who constantly challenges the team’s assumptions, decisions and actions.
 
As Bowles puts it: "We can – and must – try to anticipate and mitigate the worst potential consequences." To do this I carried out future exercises, conceptualized a hypothetical prototype, created a Design Fiction and wrote a commentary.
 
I took an element of a design feature of Fitbit and tried to think of a possible dystopian future.
See the video below for the result. The most important purpose of design fiction is to provoke. My design fiction should trigger discussion amongst the audience regarding the potential problems or unforeseen consequences I want to highlight.
